GUIDE TO MAKING AN APPLICATION FOR THE ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY FRESHMAN MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS
Arizona State University has no separate scholarship application when awarding undergraduate merit awards but rather, it pays maximum attention to the hidden details in an admission application that highlights a student's overall capacity and their projected contributions to the ASU community and the world at large.

Let's dive into the major attributes ASU looks for when evaluating its undergraduate applications and by extension, scholarship consideration;

1. Academic Excellence and Curriculum:

ASU seeks students who have shown diligence, dedication and hard work in their schoolwork and this should be clearly portrayed in their academic records. Also, ASU requires all applicants to have four years of English and math, 3 years of laboratory science and social studies, 2 years of the same foreign language, and 1 year of fine arts or technical education.

2. Passion:

ASU encourages students to pursue their passions, create new solutions, and transform their ideas into reality, and this is emphasized by its mission statement;
ASU is "a comprehensive public research university, measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed; advancing research and discovery of public value; and assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves."
The personal statement section in the admission application is a great vehicle to show off your previous innovative or entrepreneurial passions that took on the difficult task of providing a solution to a need.

3. Leadership and Social Responsibility:

ASU takes great pride in being a University whose research work has impacted the evolution of technology, healthcare and other diverse fields and thus seeks, students who have taken the initiative to make a difference in their local and global communities. We recommend that students list impactful extracurricular activities, awards, honors, and work experience in their application.

4. Letters of recommendation:

ASU does not require letters of recommendation, but it welcomes them from teachers, counselors, or other mentors who can attest to the student's academic and personal strengths. We encourage students to seek quality recommendations as this plays an important role in the evaluation of applications for admission and scholarship.
