John Monash Scholarships recognize excellence and leadership, and celebrate one of Australia’s finest leaders: General Sir John Monash. Scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding Australian graduates to support them with post graduate study (Masters, PhD or equivalent degree) at the world’s best universities. Successful applicants have demonstrated excellence in their field, leadership potential, and a vision for how they can contribute to a better Australia. The John Monash Scholarships are not limited by age, gender, academic field of study or choice of overseas university.

To be eligible to apply for a John Monash Scholarship you must;
i. Be an Australian Citizen;
ii. Have completed or be about to complete a full degree from an Australian University, and;
iii. Be planning to undertake postgraduate study at an overseas university commencing in the calendar year following the year of application.

iv. Be able to argue the merits of your chosen course, institution and how they are best positioned to drive progress in the chosen field of study.
In addition to the above criteria, other factors considered include;
i. Excellence – may be evidenced through a degree obtained with outstanding results. It can also be demonstrated through prizes, awards, publications, performances, exhibitions, enterprises and excellence in professional endeavours.
ii. Leadership – Candidates should demonstrate leadership experience or potential. This can come from their studies, professional environments and/or the community
iii. Citizenship – a clearly identified career pathway that evidences your ability to contribute to Australia and a clear career trajectory that demonstrates the benefit to society. This includes a well-developed case for choosing a university relevant to the proposed area of study.
Value of Scholarship:
In addition to the above criteria, other factors considered include;

Value of Scholarship:
The John Monash scholarship is valued as follows;
i. Annual stipend of AUD $75,000 per year for up to a maximum of 3 years (AUD $225,000) for postgraduate study (depending on the length of the degree at a full-time study load).
ii. Support to travel to the location of your postgraduate study overseas from Australia.

Scholarship Application Guide:
The application process for the John Monash Scholarship is as follows;
i. Apply for this scholarship through the online application portal.
ii. Shortlisted Applicants are invited to attend the First Round Interviews held around Australia and via video conference.
iii. National interviews are held in October for two days each in Melbourne and Sydney. Up to 40 Applicants are further invited to attend the National Interviews.
