Scholarship Summary: 
The El Pomar Scholarship was created to encourage two (2) talented and passionate freshmen students from Colorado to pursue careers in public policy or non-profit work. Each year, two students are awarded this scholarship in order to experience an exceptional liberal arts education and gain valuable hands-on exposure to the non-profit sector.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be;
i. Colorado residents
ii. Seniors in high school
iii. Eligible for need-based financial aid. Students with high financial need will be paid additional consideration in the selection process.
iv. Demonstrated leadership in and passion for community service and public policy

Value of Scholarship: 
i. The El Pomar Scholarship covers the annual cost of tuition and fees, standard dorm room, and meal plan at Colorado College.
 
ii. Also as an El Pomar Scholar, students collaborate with the Collaborative for Community Engagement office to participate in civic action, learning, and reflection.

Scholarship Application Guide: 
Colorado residents eligible for need-based financial aid are encouraged to apply for the scholarship if they are considering a career in public policy or the nonprofit sector, or if they have engaged in significant and impactful community service throughout high school, and plan to continue while in college. 

To apply for the El Pomar Scholarship:
i. Complete an admission application into Colorado College. 

ii. Submit the El Pomar Interest Form. To access the El Pomar Interest Form, you will need your CC login credentials, sent to you upon submission of your preliminary application or your admission application 

iii. When the application opens, you will be sent a link to the El Pomar Application. Submit the application by January 21 which includes the following;
  1. A resume
  2. 600-800 word essay that describes your community service experience or your interest in public policy, and your commitment to serving the people of Colorado. Consider how Colorado College might further your pursuits in these areas.
  3. Two short answer responses
  4. One letter of recommendation from someone who is familiar with your interest in public policy, nonprofit work, or community service, and commitment to serving the people of Colorado. Your recommender will receive an email with directions once you submit your application. 
iv. El Pomar Scholarship finalists will be notified in mid-February and will be contacted to schedule a virtual interview with the El Pomar Selection Committee. Winners will be notified in mid-March.

Candidates are evaluated based on leadership potential, commitment to the well-being of the people of Colorado, and their engagement in community service and/or public policy activities. Students with high financial need and students from underrepresented backgrounds will be given additional consideration in the selection process
