Scholarship Summary:
The Grissom Scholars Program is designed for outstanding first-generation college students (US citizens and residents only) who exhibit character, ambition, and achievement both in and out of the classroom and have substantial financial need. The Grissom Program recognizes 10 incoming students annually.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
Eligible candidates will meet the following requirements;
i. Be first-generation college students, meaning their parents or guardians have not completed a four-year degree.
ii. Be first-year students who reside in the United States and have limited financial resources
iii. Proven dedication to high academic achievement
iv. Strong character and leadership potential
v. Persistence and motivation to achieve goals
vi. Creative problem-solving and innovation
vii. Significant past involvement in extracurricular activities such as the arts, community life, service and paid or unpaid work
viii. The ambition and intellectual curiosity necessary to succeed in a rigorous academic environment
Value of Scholarship:
The Selected Grissom Scholars will receive the following benefits;
• Four-year, full-tuition scholarship, plus additional aid to cover any remaining financial need
• $5,000 in educational enrichment funds after the successful completion of the first year
• Up to $1,500 reimbursement in travel expenses for Family Weekend for scholars in their first year
• On-campus leadership and personal enrichment programming
• Individual mentoring from the program director as well as an upper-class student
• Regular group activities with other Grissom Scholars
Ten Grissom Scholars will be selected from each entering first-year class.
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. All eligible first-generation college students should apply for admission by January 15.
- You must submit the FAFSA as well as letters of recommendation at the time of your application
ii. Eligible students should apply through the Grissom Scholars Program application.
iii. Applicants will be notified of their status in March.
NOMINATIONS
Although a scholarship nomination is not required in order to apply for premier scholarships, the admission office welcomes nominations to help identify and learn more about potential scholarship candidates. A nomination form can be completed by a school counselor, core-course teacher, community-based organization liaison, employer, or independent college counselor. The priority deadline for nominations is December 15, but nominations are accepted through January 15.
