Scholarship Summary:
Once an international student has been admitted to NIU as a freshman student, they will automatically be considered for either a merit or housing scholarship. Students will be awarded either one of these scholarships as long as they are still available.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must;
i. Obtain a minimum average GPA of 2.75 out of 4.0 as computed by NIU standards
Value of Scholarship:
The NIU International Merit Scholarships are valued as follows;
i. Housing Scholarship: $3,600/year (Required GPA: 2.75/4.0) Students receiving this award will live in the Neptune West residence hall.
ii. Merit Scholarship: $5,000 - $9,000/academic year (Required GPA: 3.5/4.0)
Scholarship Application Guide:
i. Complete an application for admission plus all required documents (transcript, test score, application fee or waiver)
ii. Apply for the International Student Merit Scholarship from the Office of International Admissions through the MyScholarships application.
