Scholarship Summary:
Canadian students who demonstrate superior academic ability, creative and original thinking, involvement in school or community activities, and proven leadership can apply for a Queen’s major admission award. Financial need is also a consideration for some of the major admission awards.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
These are the criteria for eligibility:
• Available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada
• You may attend high school in Canada or internationally
• Students taking a gap year can still apply for the major admission awards
• Entering the first year of post-secondary education for the first time in a full-time (minimum 60% course load)
- Queen's undergraduate degree program on Queen's campus or at Bader College (graduates from a 2-year CEGEP program transferring into their first year of a Queen's program remain eligible for grades-based admission scholarships)
• Students with prior post-secondary education are not eligible for Queen's admission awards

Value of Scholarship:
The Queen’s Major Admission Awards are valued as follows;
i. Bank of Montreal Award: CAD$10,000 annually {Min. required grade: 90%, 5 awards available}
ii. Chancellor’s Scholarship: CAD$12,000 annually {Min. required grade: 90%, 50 awards available (Nomination required)}
iii. Chernoff Family Award: CAD$12,000 – CAD$15,000 annually {Min. required grade: 90%, 11 awards available}
iv. D&R Sobey Atlantic Admission Award: CAD$20,000 annually {Financial need and exceptional academic excellence required, up to 7 awards available}
v. Gregory Scholarship in Engineering: CAD$12,000 annually {Min. required grade: 90%, 1 award available (Must be nominated for the Queen’s Chancellor’s Scholarship)}
vi. Dr. Iris May Marsh Memorial Award: CAD$12,000 annually {Min. required grade: 90%, 5 awards available}
vii. Melvin R. Goodes Award: CAD$12,000 – CAD$15,000 annually {Min. required grade: 90%, 2 awards available}
viii. Science 1968 Admission Award in Applied Science: CAD$12,000 annually {Min. required grade: 90%, 1 award available (Must be nominated for the Queen’s Chancellor’s Scholarship)}
All above awards are renewable for 3 subsequent years (4 years total) provided a GPA of 3.5 is achieved in a full course load each year and financial need remains evident. Selected recipients will receive further information about renewal criteria.
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Apply for admission to Queen’s via the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) by no later than November 20 to ensure that you gain access to SOLUS to submit your MAA application by December 8. It takes 4-6 business days to receive your SOLUS log in from the date you applied to Queen's University.
ii. Review the eligibility criteria for each of the major admission awards you wish to be considered for.
iii. Complete the Major Admission Scholarship application – available on your SOLUS Student Center
- Prepare your responses to the MAA application in advance of submitting online in the SOLUS Student Centre (SOLUS cannot be accessed until after applying for admission to Queen's). Note: The practice application contains the exact questions that will appear on the online MAA application. There will not be any additional questions. The Practice application for the 2025-26 admission year is currently available on the Application Forms page.
- If you’re applying for the Chancellor’s Scholarship, make sure you have confirmation that your high school will be nominating you. You’ll need your High School Official’s name/email address when you submit the online MAA Application in SOLUS
iv. Students who have applied for Major Admission Awards, including the Chancellor's, must fulfill all admission requirements for the desired program(s) that are being applied to.
