Scholarship Summary: 
Each year, more than $2 million dollars in university graduate fellowships are offered to full-time master’s and PhD students (domestic and international) to recognize and support academic excellence. The fellowships are offered to students who have demonstrated superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment. Students must be recommended by their department or unit to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for a UMGF.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must;
i. have a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 to be considered for this award. Please contact your department as they may have a higher GPA requirement.
ii. have been admitted as a full-time student without provision or have cleared provisional admission as a master’s or PhD student in a graduate program at the University of Manitoba.
iii. Be registered full‐time in a graduate program of study in the unit that recommends them for a UMGF, if they hold a UMGF award.

Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Finance (MFin), and Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) are not eligible for the UMGF as these programs do not have a research/thesis component.

Value of Scholarship: 
The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship is valued as follows;
i. UMGF master’s awards are valued at $14,000 per year for 12 or 24 months, for up to a total of $28,000.
ii. UMGF doctoral awards are valued at $18,000 per year for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, for up to a total of $72,000.

Total maximum UMGF support for any individual graduate student is five years (60 months) and the UMGF is tenable in the department or unit in which it was offered at the University of Manitoba.

Scholarship Application Guide: 
To apply, please consult your department or unit for the UMGF application process and deadline. Once the department/unit determines their selection, students are recommended to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. FGS will notify the award recipients with an official letter via email.
