Scholarship Summary:
The Governors' Awards of Distinction are York University’s most significant and prestigious awards and they are awarded to exceptional Canadian students who are in their final year of study in a secondary school and will be seeking admission into first year of undergraduate study at York University in any discipline.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must;
i. Have a minimum admission average of 90% or equivalent
ii. Have other accomplishments such as leadership in community service, achievement in arts or sports, or excellence in other areas of individual endeavour which demonstrates the wholeness of the person and grace of character
Value of Scholarship:
The York University Governors' Awards of Distinction are valued as follows;
i. John S. Proctor Entrance Scholarship: CAD$8,000 x 4 years, plus cost of residence accommodation for first year
ii. Murray Ross Scholarship: CAD$8,000 x 4 years, plus cost of residence accommodation for first year
iii. Alumni Entrance Scholarship: CAD$8,000 x 4 years, plus cost of residence accommodation for first year
All above awards are renewed on the basis of continued high academic standing (minimum grade point average of 8.00).
Recipients who are shortlisted for the above awards but do not receive it, will be awarded a CAD$2,000 merit scholarship which can be held in conjunction with the York Automatic Entrance Scholarship.
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Complete an application for admission into York University by January 15.
ii. Submit the scholarships and bursaries application available through http://www.yorku.ca/myfile.
- You do not need an offer of admission to apply for scholarships, awards and bursaries. You must select the appropriate award from the list available and complete the following sections: extracurricular activities, community service, and a personal statement.
iii. In addition, you must submit three letters of recommendation by the February 15 deadline (refer to http://sfs.yorku.ca/scholarships/ for Letter of Reference Guidelines). Letters can be mailed to:
