Scholarship Summary:
The University of Winnipeg Graduate Studies Scholarship (UWGSS) is awarded to outstanding graduate students (Canadian and international) based on academic excellence as well as, community service. All full-time graduate students in thesis, course-based, practicum-based or project-based programs are eligible to apply, with the exception of students in the Theology and Joint Master’s Programs.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To qualify to apply to this scholarship, the candidate must:
• Have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.75 in the last 60 credits hours of study.
• Be entering the first or second year of an eligible master’s program as of May or September of the current year or January of the upcoming year.
• Be enrolled in a full-time master’s program.
Value of Scholarship:
The University of Winnipeg Graduate Student Scholarship (UWGSS) is valued at $15,000 for one year of full-time study, and $7,500 for one year of part-time study.
This award is not automatically renewable. Students may hold the award multiple years in a row, but must reapply each award competition and a second year of the award is not guaranteed.
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Complete an application for admission into University of Winnipeg.
ii. Submit a complete scholarship application package.
A completed application package includes the following;
- Students applying for the UWGSS must complete both the one-page plan of study/research proposal and the one-page community engagement statement.
• Two references: One from your graduate program committee chair or graduate advisor/supervisor and one from an individual who can speak to your academic excellence and community engagement. Referees must submit their letters of support to graduateawards@uwinnipeg.ca. References may use the UWGSS Appraisal Form or their own letterhead.
• A Community Engagement and Academic Curriculum Vitae. This would include conference/paper presentations, funding history, relevant work/volunteer experience, etc.
- The CV for UWGSS applicants must include a section outlining community engagement.
• Transcripts (UWinnipeg Transcripts can be unofficial copies)
