Scholarship Summary:
Missouri State University offers a small number of graduate assistantships to qualified and capable graduate students (domestic and international) to assist with expenses while studying for advanced degrees at Missouri State University.– Graduate assistantships are offered in both academic and administrative areas.
Assistantships provided through academic departments, typically involve either teaching or research responsibilities. Assistantships in administrative offices involve a variety of office-specific tasks.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for a graduate assistantship, you must:
i. Be admitted to a graduate program at Missouri State
ii. Hold a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0; an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in your last 60 hours; or a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on 9 or more hours of your most recent graduate course work
iii. Maintain a 3.0 GPA to continue eligibility
Value of Scholarship:
The MSU Graduate Assistantship provides the following benefits;
A. Fee Waiver Scholarship
The fee waiver will pay for graduate level courses that are part of the GA's primary graduate program being pursued.
- The maximum number of graduate credits covered by the tuition and fee waiver scholarship cannot exceed 10 percent beyond the minimum credit hour requirements of the degree program, or one additional course if only enrolled in a graduate certificate.
- Within this overall limit, the waiver covers up to 15 hours in the fall or spring. Graduate credit hours taken in the intersession prior to the start of a semester are part of the allowable fee waiver limits of that semester.
B. Stipend
i. Provides a student with a minimum amount for the academic year (nine months) and, in some departments, a higher stipend is available. The average stipend starts from $10,000 annually.

To apply for an assistantship,
1. Review the available positions and the eligibility criteria in the Graduate Assistantship Listing Page.
2. Download and complete the Application for Graduate Assistantship
3. Review the graduate assistantship posting for additional required application materials or contact the department that is offering the assistantship
4. Gather any additional required application materials
5. Submit your application and supporting materials directly to the department; the student must submit an application directly to the department/office in which an assistantship is sought. It is important to check with the department/office before applying as there may be additional requirements such as letters of recommendation.
6. Procedures – Once you have been notified by the department or office that you are being offered an assistantship, you should wait to receive confirmation and additional information from the Graduate College.
- You will receive an award letter and an Employment Appointment Form. The Employment Appointment Form must be returned to the Graduate College in a timely manner in order to process your fee waiver and to ensure that your paycheck is not delayed.
