Scholarship Summary:
The William Conroy Honors College at New Mexico State University will be offering four-year Conroy Honors scholarships to new, first year students (US citizens and residents only), with a desire to serve as leaders and models for what the life of a fully-engaged, academic all-star, student can be at New Mexico State University.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must;
i. Be new High School graduates and this includes students that are also simultaneously completing an early college degree.
ii. Admitted to NMSU with a 3.9 GPA as reported by high school transcripts or 159 Academic Index based on credentials submitted to the Admissions Office
iii. Conroy Honors Scholars will be selected competitively with evidence that students will be academic leaders modeling Honors core values through:
- Engagement in research, scholarship, and creative work with NMSU faculty
- Leadership roles in the campus community (e.g., student organizations, residence life, to academic departments)
- Civic and service engagement to promote a healthier and more just world
- Active global citizenship activities around issues of importance to the borderlands region and the world at large
Value of Scholarship:
The Conroy Honors Scholar Award is valued as $6,000 annual stipend for up to 4 years.
- All Conroy Honors Scholars will also be eligible to receive a $2,500 Global Citizen Award to help fund a study abroad experience with Honors guidance.
Conroy Honors Scholars are required to make annual progress toward earning the designation as a University Honors Graduate by meeting the following requirements:
• Complete the first semester of college with a 3.25 GPA and pass 15 new main campus credit hours
• Thereafter, maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA and pass 15 new Las Cruces campus credits per semester
• Complete the required First-Year Honors Seminar with a grade of B or better
• Complete an additional three Honors Course credits in the first year, and completing three Honors credits each of the following years with a B or better.
• Submitting a plan for Honors capstone completion before the start of the Senior year
Scholarship Application Guide:
i. For priority consideration, applicants must complete a Scholar Dollar$ application by December 1 to provide a wholistic view of their experiences and potentials.
ii. For full review, students are also required to submit a letter of interest to the Honors College Office (honors@nmsu.edu) by December 1 explaining why they are a good fit for the Conroy Honors Scholar Program.
Listed below are the letter guidelines:
- Explain why you are a good fit for the Conroy Honors Scholar award.
- Letters should not exceed two pages in length.
- Letters may reference information provided on the Scholar Dollar$ application, but should also include any additional information students wish to feature about their professional and potential aspirations.
- Evaluation of both the Scholar Dollar$ materials and the letter of interest will focus on evidence of academic promise consistent with the mission and goals of the Conroy Honors Scholar Program.
