Scholarship Summary:
All admitted students (US citizens and residents only) who submit a complete application to Detroit Mercy Law by the priority scholarship deadline will automatically be considered for Dean’s Scholarships and Fellowship Awards. Scholarship offers are generally extended at the same time as the offer of admission. Applicants are encouraged to apply early in the admissions cycle for maximum scholarship consideration.

There are no set criteria for consideration but past recipients were in the top 20% of the applicant pool.
Value of Scholarship:
The University of Detroit Mercy Law Degree Awards are namely as follows;
i. Dean’s Scholarships: Award amount varies
ii. Fellowships: Full Tuition
iii. Henry H. Tarrant Award for Black Student Excellence: $5,000/year
iv. Spirit of Detroit Mercy Law Awards: Award amount varies
v. Phillip J. McElroy Scholarship: $15,000/year
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Submit a complete application to Detroit Mercy Law prior to February 1st.
ii. Dean's Scholarships will be awarded to incoming students in recognition of their academic accomplishments and potential for success at Detroit Mercy Law.
iii. Fellowships will be awarded to incoming students who have demonstrated excellence prior to law school through academics, leadership, professionalism, and service.
- The Scholarship Committee selects students for fellowship consideration.
- Selected students are invited to interview for the Fellows Award.
- Fellows receive full-tuition scholarship support, alumni mentors, and leadership, networking, and service opportunities throughout law school.
iv. Applicants interested in being considered for the McElroy Award should submit a brief statement (no more than one page per scholarship in length) about their interest in the award and their qualifications for the award with their application as an addendum.
v. Applicants interested in being considered for the Tarrant Award should submit a brief statement (no more than one page per scholarship in length) about their interest in the award and their qualifications for the award with their application as an addendum.
- Selected applicants will be invited to interview.
