Scholarship Summary:
The Robitschek Scholarship is awarded to international students of Czech or Slovak origin who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and have met the English language requirement for unconditional admission. Every year, 3 talented Czech or Slovak students selected for this scholarship have a chance to visit the United States and spend one year studying at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. 

In 1996, Paul Robitschek established the Robitschek Czech Scholar Program with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Because of his commitment to democracy and free market economics, Paul established the program to give talented Czech students the opportunity to spend a year in the United States to have a broad experience living the American culture. The goal, simply, is to give students who might not otherwise have the means an opportunity to fully experience American student life.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
In order to be able to apply, you need to meet the following scholarship criteria:
1. You must be a Czech national enrolled in an undergraduate degree at a Czech University
2. You must be 21 years of age at the time of arrival in Nebraska.
3. You should be fluent in English 
4. You should be willing to seek part-time employment to provide for your personal expenses (not required)
5. You should be prepared to engage in regular communication with the program’s coordinators

And additional selection criteria:
1. Demonstrated academic proficiency
2. Demonstrated leadership experience
3. Enthusiasm for experiencing American free-market economics and culture
4. Demonstrated goals for applying this experience in their future academic and professional careers in the Czech Republic

Please note: Selection will be based on demonstrated academic proficiency, demonstrated English proficiency, demonstrated leadership experience, enthusiasm for experiencing American free-market economics and culture and demonstrated goals for applying this experience in their to future academic and professional careers in the Czech Republic.

Value of Scholarship:
The Robitschek Scholarship provides the following benefits;
1. Travel from the Czech Republic to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska.
2. Tuition, housing & meal plan, and required fees for two academic semesters—approximately 9 months.
3. Return travel to the Czech Republic from Lincoln, Nebraska.
4. A $400 credit per semester will be applied toward your UNL student account to assist with expenditures associated with textbooks, supplies, or miscellaneous fee

Scholarship Application Guide:
Interested applicants mail the following documents (.pdf/.doc) to the Office of Admissions at admissions@unl.edu:
1. Letter of Interest
2. Resume/Vitae with Mailing Address, Email and Date of Birth
3. University Transcript(s)
4. English Proficiency Scores (TOEFL, IELTS, ACT/SAT, Duolingo)
5. Essay Responses (1,000-1,500 Words | Approximately 2-3 Pages)

c. Why do you think you would be successful at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?
d. How many years of tertiary education do you need to complete your degree in the Czech Republic and what degree will you obtain?
e. What are some of the most important issues today within your field of study?
f. How might you use academic, work, and/or research opportunities at UNL to further your understanding of those issues and contribute to your long-term career goals?

6. Applications are reviewed by the Robitschek Scholarship Selection Committee. Selected candidates will be required to participate in a virtual interview with the Robitschek Scholarship Selection Committee in mid-late March.
7. Please note that selected scholarship recipients will be responsible for SEVIS and J-1 visa fees associated with their travel to the United States.
