Scholarship Summary:
University of Essex is providing scholarships to international students from African nations who are self-funding their postgraduate studies. This scholarship will be awarded as a tuition fee discount in the first year only.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
The following are the eligibility criteria;
i. These scholarships are restricted to students who are overseas fee payers and are entirely self-funded.
ii. Students must be ordinarily resident in an African nation (defined as a member state of the African Union).
iii. These scholarships may be awarded to applicants who have completed relevant school or university studies in Africa.
iv. Applicants must have been awarded an undergraduate degree with the grades specified below. A higher Masters grade cannot be taken to compensate for a lower Bachelors grade;
- For Ghanaian applicants, CGPA 3.0/4.0 or above
- For Nigerian applicants, CGPA 3.0/5 or above
- For other African applicants, 2.1 or above (or equivalent as described by the Postgraduate Admissions selection criteria)
v. Eligible courses are those which are full-time taught Masters courses leading to MA, MSc, LLM, MFA and MRes degrees and start in October 2024 or January 2025.
vi. Applicants who have firmly accepted an offer of a place by the above deadlines and met the academic conditions of entry, will be considered for these scholarships.
vii. Only one scholarship award can be made per student and the award cannot normally be held in conjunction with other University of Essex awards.
viii. This scholarship is available for the first year of study only.
ix. Successful applicants should be available for promotional activities.
Value of Scholarship:
The Essex African Postgraduate Regional Scholarship is valued as £4,500, and is awarded as a discount towards the cost of tuition fees for the first year of study only.
Scholarship Application Guide:
These scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit and all academic applications will automatically be considered.
The University will use official transcripts and certificates, submitted as part of the original application, as evidence of grades achieved, and no alternative supporting evidence will be accepted. Applicants who have firmly accepted an offer of a place by the deadlines and met the academic conditions of entry, will be considered for these scholarships
