Scholarship Summary:
The Josiah and Myra Roberts Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship designed to encourage Australian students to pursue study in both physics and mathematics in the University of Sydney.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
You must:
• be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• be a recent school leaver and have an unconditional offer of admission to a full-time undergraduate degree (including combined degrees) at the Faculty of Science
• have studied both physics and mathematics (satisfying the University's maths prerequisite) in the NSW HSC (or equivalent)
• enrol in either:
• 12 credit points of physics units of study
• 12 credit points of Mathematics and Statistics units of study
• six credit points of physics and six credit points of mathematics, and statistics units of study in your commencing year
• be from a low socioeconomic background or demonstrate disadvantage or hardship
• have not deferred or undertaken a gap year.
Value of Scholarship:
The scholarship is valued at AUD$10,000 per annum and is tenable for up to three years. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit,
II. low socioeconomic background or demonstrated disadvantage or hardship, and
III. a personal statement outlining their interest in studying both mathematics and physics during their study at the University of Sydney.
c. Preference will be given to students from a low socioeconomic background or to students who demonstrate disadvantage or hardship.
d. The Scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Science or their nominated delegates. The selection committee must include members of other faculties that may study physics and/or mathematics, such as the Faculty of Engineering.
- The selection committee will be using the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) application from UAC to assess low socioeconomic background or demonstrated disadvantage or hardship.
