Scholarship Summary:
The Walter and Eliza Hall Trust Opportunity Scholarship has been established to provide financial support to an Australian student with a diagnosed physical disability, who can demonstrate financial hardship, in order to assist the recipient achieve their maximum potential in terms of a formal tertiary education.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
• Australian or New Zealand citizen or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa; and
• Be enrolled in a UTS undergraduate degree; and
• Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit points per session; and
• Have a physical disability; visual or hearing impairment; or any other ongoing health condition with a significant impact on mobility; and
• Be registered with the UTS Accessibility Service on a permanent basis at the point of scholarship selection; and
• Have applied through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for an Equity Scholarship and therein demonstrate financial disadvantage; and
• All candidates must apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible.
Preference for one of the scholarships may be given to applicants of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Evidence must be provided in the form of either:
• a Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation; or
• a UTS Statutory Declaration form accompanied by two written references from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people from the applicant’s community who can confirm their identity and is not an immediate family member
Value of Scholarship:
The UTS Walter and Eliza Hall Trust Opportunity Scholarship has a maximum total value of $50,000 spread over 5 years.

Selection process
As demonstrated in the scholarship application:
• Motivation and commitment to succeed in their UTS degree
• Likelihood that receiving the scholarship will assist the student in achieving their academic goals
• Financial need as demonstrated by the UAC Equity Scholarship application.
• Preference may be given to applicants of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
