Scholarship Summary:
VSU offers a variety of merit scholarships to incoming freshman students (domestic and international) based on academic excellence, demonstrated through the admission application.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be considered for a merit scholarship at VSU, applicants must:
i. Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and SAT total of 1080 or ACT composite of 21 OR
ii. Have a minimum 3.5 GPA and one (1) of the following criteria: ranked in top 25% of class; completed two (2) AP/IB/DE courses with a grade of "B" or better; designated as Valedictorian or Salutatorian.
Value of Scholarship:
The VSU Freshman Merit Scholarships are namely as follows;
i. Presidential Scholarship: is valued as a $10,000 award and includes a $7,000 scholarship and a $3,000 service award (Criteria: 3.2/4.0 GPA and 1170 SAT / 24 ACT. Without test scores, students must have a minimum 3.75 GPA and one (1) of the following criteria: ranked in top 15% of class; completed three (3) AP/IB/DE courses with a grade of "B" or better; designated as Valedictorian or Salutatorian)
ii. Provost Scholarship: is valued as a $6,500 award and includes a $3,500 scholarship and a $3,000 service award (Criteria: 3.0/4.0 GPA and 1080 SAT / 21 ACT. Without test scores, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and one (1) of the following criteria: ranked in top 25% of class; completed two (2) AP/IB/DE courses with a grade of "B" or better; designated as Valedictorian or Salutatorian)
The above VSU scholarships are renewable up to three additional years if the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0, pass 30 credit hours during the school year, participates in the University Honors program, and maintains residence on campus.
